A Fresh Start For A Much-Loved Family Home

This renovation turned a tired home in Woonona into a light-filled and functional retreat. The owners loved their location and the feel of the original house but needed more space and better flow. The goal was to modernise the home in a way that felt natural and personal, without losing its sense of warmth.

The Challenge

The home had served the family well, but the layout no longer fit their needs. It felt dark and disconnected, with small rooms, awkward flow, and underused outdoor areas. The kitchen and living areas were separated, and the garden was difficult to access.

The owners didn’t want a full knockdown. They wanted to retain what they could, improve what wasn’t working, and bring in more natural light and better indoor-outdoor connection.

The Solution

JMH Living Design reworked the floor plan to create a more open and breathable home. Internal walls were removed to bring the kitchen, living, and dining into one central space. New windows and sliding doors were added to improve access to the outdoors and let natural light in.

The exterior was updated with new cladding and finishes that reflect a relaxed coastal feel. Inside, we introduced a simple, timeless palette that feels calm and grounded.

Outdoor zones were redesigned to suit family life, with a better layout for entertaining and everyday use. Access from the living areas to the garden was improved, turning the backyard into an extension of the home.

The Result

The house now feels open, airy, and connected. Light moves through the space beautifully, and the layout suits both quiet moments and gatherings.

The renovation gave the home a fresh identity while holding onto what made it special. It feels like a new home, but one that still holds all the memories of the old one. The owners now have a space that supports the way they live and brings a sense of ease to daily life.
